Oxford Genetic Atlas Project

The Oxford Genetic Atlas Project ran from 1996 to 2000 in Professor Sykes’ university laboratory. It involved collecting DNA samples from over ten thousand volunteers from Britain and Ireland with the aim of revealing the underlying genetic history of these Isles. OGAP formed the research basis of Prof Sykes’ 2006 book Blood of the Isles (published as Saxons, Vikings and Celts in the US and Canada).

The OGAP results are now incorporated in the Oxford Ancestors searchable databases that are accessible to our customers. Samples were collected anonymously so, unlike Oxford Ancestors customers who opt to share their results, OGAP donors cannot be contacted.
