What is it?
Our Y-Line™ service analyses your Y-chromosome
DNA (yDNA) using ten genetic markers, producing a ten-digit Y-Line™ signature,
presented in certificate format. Scientific research has shown
that these Y-Line™ signatures are inherited,
in the majority of cases, with surname over time. This means that
your Y-Line™ signature can be compared with those of others
in your surname project, adding previously inaccessible genetic
information to a genealogical research project.
What will you receive?
- A ten-digit Y-Line™ signature
of your Y-chromosome.
- A full explanation of the scientific
procedures that we used.
- A premium quality Y-Line™ certificate
(see right).
- Detailed instructions regarding the
use of your Y-Line™ signature for genealogical
research.
- Free access to our on-line, Y-chromosome
database with unlimited searches.
- The co-ordinator will receive a comparison
table of the results of the surname project

How does it work?
All men carry a Y-chromosome in every cell of
their bodies, which is inherited exclusively from their fathers.
Indeed, it is the Y-chromosome that makes men male! We despatch
directly to the co-ordinator of the surname project the required
number of Sampling Kits which contain a small brush
that we ask you to rub on the inside of your cheek to collect,
painlessly, your DNA, which we extract and profile on receipt
of the brush.
Your DNA is made up of a string of chemicals whose names are abbreviated
to the letters A, C, G and T. At particular points on the Y-chromosome,
the exact number of letters can vary. The profiling process determines
the exact number of letters at particular points or markers; in
the case of our Y-Line™ analysis, ten markers, and these
form your ten-digit Y-chromosome signature.
For reasons of confidentiality your DNA sample is destroyed
immediately after our analysis is completed.
How long does it take?
Sampling Kits are despatched to the co-ordinator
within 3-5 working day of receipt of your order. From the time
that we
receive
your
sampling brush,
it will be approximately six weeks until we send you your results.
How much does it cost?
The Y-Line™ analysis costs £150.00,
including postage and packing.
